Graphic & Visual arts, Painting, and Sculpture

Carolina Fandiño lives and works in Colombia. She received her B.A from Universidad de Los Andes in Bogotá, and has two M.F.A degrees, one from California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) in Los Angeles, and the other from Bard College in New York. Her work explores the way the patriarchal mindset affects perceptible and relatively imperceptible/psychic dimensions of a subject/subjects, determining the way one relates with each other, with radical others and with oneself. Fandiño is also interested in investigating the porosity between apparently unrelated issues and attempts to generate relationships of contrast and coincidence between subject matters that are usually understood as isolated, such as gender violence, ecological exploitation and violence against animals. The coupling between representation and indexicality is a constant in her work, which allows her to make tacit and direct reference to specific forms of violence and suggest that they all have the same root. Finally, Fandiño´s practice aligns with the premises of gender studies and ecofeminism because they formulate interdisciplinary models of knowledge and action, as well as critical ones that suggest reciprocity between the micro and the macro, the personal an the political, body and commonality.
